Our Story

Why We're Building a Needlepoint Shop
in the Heart of Macon

Macon Needlepoint Co. is Middle Georgia's first dedicated needlepoint boutique. Here's why this shop needs to exist.

How It Started

A Shop That Should Have
Already Existed

Macon Needlepoint Co. started with a simple observation: there are needlepoint stitchers all across Middle Georgia, but nowhere local for them to shop, learn, or gather. The nearest dedicated needlepoint shop has been over 85 miles away in Atlanta. For a craft that thrives on seeing colors and textures in person, that's a real problem.

There are wonderful sewing and quilting shops in the area, and a few cross-stitch retailers. But needlepoint is its own world with its own materials, techniques, and community. A quilting shop can't help you choose between Silk & Ivory and Vineyard Silk for a specific canvas. An online order can't show you how a thread catches the light or how a color reads against a particular painted design.

So we decided to build the shop ourselves. Not a franchise. Not a chain. An independent, locally owned boutique designed specifically for the stitchers of Macon, Warner Robins, Milledgeville, Perry, and everywhere in between.

What We Believe

The Shop We'd Want
to Walk Into

Every decision we make about this shop starts with one question: what would we want as stitchers? That means a curated selection instead of an overwhelming wall of inventory. It means staff who can talk through thread choices and stitch techniques with you, not just ring you up. It means a space that feels like a gathering place, not just a store.

We believe needlepoint deserves its own home in Middle Georgia. Not a corner of a craft store or a shelf in a yarn shop. A real, dedicated space where the craft is taken seriously and newcomers are welcomed warmly. That's what we're building.

The Craft

What Is Needlepoint,
Exactly?

Needlepoint is the art of stitching with a blunt tapestry needle and colorful threads on a stiff, open-weave canvas. Unlike cross-stitch, which uses X-shaped stitches on soft fabric, needlepoint covers the entire canvas with stitches like basketweave and continental tent stitch. And unlike embroidery, which adds decorative detail on top of existing cloth, needlepoint creates a dense, durable fabric from scratch.

Most needlepoint starts with a hand-painted canvas: a design painted directly onto the mesh by an artist. From there, you choose your threads, pick up a tapestry needle, and begin filling in the design stitch by stitch. The finished piece can become almost anything: a throw pillow, a Christmas ornament, a belt, a framed work of art, or a keepsake passed down through generations.

The craft is meditative, creative, and deeply personal. People who try it tend to fall in love with it. And the community around needlepoint is one of the warmest and most welcoming in all of fiber arts. That's the world we're building a home for in Macon.
